Volumes
aloof volumes create pgdata --size 10 aloof volumes attach db pgdata --path /var/lib/postgresql/data aloof volumes detach db pgdata # data is kept aloof volumes delete pgdata # must be detached first
A volume lives on one node, so apps with volumes always run there. Volumes are single-writer: on redeploy the old instance stops before the new one starts.
Snapshots
aloof snapshots create pgdata aloof snapshots list pgdata aloof snapshots restore pgdata snap_20261013080000_ab12cd # stops the attached app, restores, starts it again
A snapshot is a compressed archive of the whole volume, kept on the edge host's disk (10 per volume, oldest pruned first) and billed at $0.22 per GB-month of archive size. Snapshots of volumes on remote nodes aren't supported yet. Once a day each volume is also snapshotted, encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and copied off-site (7 daily, 4 weekly, 3 monthly): aloof snapshots offsite <volume>, aloof snapshots offsite-restore <volume> <id>.
